Did you know:

  • It’s an offence to lead an animal while riding a bike, including if the animal is tethered to the bike.
  • Sikhs wearing a turban do not have to wear a helmet when riding a bike (See 1 in Appendix).

34—Sikhs exempt from wearing bicycle helmets

For the purposes of rule 256(1) and (2) (Bicycle helmets), a person of the Sikh religion who is wearing a turban is exempt from wearing a bicycle helmet.

301—Leading an animal while in or on a vehicle

(1)The driver of a motor vehicle must not lead an animal, including by tethering the animal to the motor vehicle, unless the driver is permitted to do so under another law of this jurisdiction. Offence provision. Note— Motor vehicle is defined in the dictionary

.(2)A person who is a passenger in, or on any part of, a motor vehicle must not lead an animal while the motor vehicle is moving unless the passenger is permitted to do so under another law of this jurisdiction. Offence provision.

(3)The rider of a bicycle must not lead an animal, including by tethering the animal to the bicycle, unless the rider is permitted to do so under another law of this jurisdiction. Offence provision. Note— Bicycle is defined in the dictionary

99A—Cyclists on footpaths etc to give warning

A person who is riding a bicycle on a footpath or other road-related area must, if it is necessary to do so for the purpose of averting danger, give warning (by sounding a warning device attached to the cycle or by other means) to pedestrians or other persons using that footpath or other road-related area.
